Aims of N.C.C.

a. To develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless services among the youth to make them useful citizens.,

b. To create human resource of organised trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life including the Armed Forces and always available for the service of the nation.

c. To create suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the Armed Forces.

Enrolment

Enrolment is an voluntary basis open to Degree students and exceptionally talented students of Higher Secondary classes, if they are certified medically fit by a Competent Medical Officer.

Enrolment form is obtainable from NCC office/NCC officer on or before 1st. Sunday of August every year or as and when notified by the NCC officer/Principal.

Training & KRAs

a. Training

The training is spread over in 120 periods a training year from April to February. Infantry Training consists of foot drill, weapon training, field craft, map reading, organisation of Armed Forces, Civil Defence, First Aid, Military History and Geography, Social Services(such as tree-plantation adaptation of a village for its all round development). Blood donation and literacy drive are also taken up by the cadets.

Camps

An NCC cadet has to attend at least one camp in each training year inorder to be eligible to appear at the certificate examination. The camp may be annual training camp(inside Orissa) or Basic Leadership Camp. Advance Leadership Camp. Army Attachment (all outside Orissa). Special adventure camps such as travelling camp, par-sailing camp, cycle expedition, moped expedition and rock climbing camp are also held each year for talented cadets. All cadets are to attend the camps at their own risk.

Issue and Return of N.C.C. Kits.

NCC kits will be issued to the cadets and withdrawn from the cadets by the NCC officer conditionally. Cadets are authorised to keep the same till Jan. 31st. Kits are neither transferable nor interchangeable. Cadets are required to return back the kits issued to them for any reason stated below.

a. On absence for three consecutive parades.

b. Before they leave the station exceeding one month.

c. When they cease to be a student in this college.

d. In case of voluntary with drawn from cadetship

e. In response to instruction by notification or office order.

Note :

1. While in uniform cadets are required to maintain the spirit and keep up the ethics when encounter with any person in uniform.

2. Misuse/improper use/mis handling of kits and unauthorised possession of Defence material is a punishable offence.

Advantage of N.C.C. Training

NCC cadet appear at the certificate B examination in their 2nd. year of training and certificate C examination at the end of 3rd year of training.

Incentives for N.C.C. cadets (subject to specific conditions)

A. By Government of India.

1. Commission in Armed Forces (as officer)

a. Reservation of seats/vacancies in IMA, Dehradun., OTA, Chennai/Army, Navy & Air Force.

b. Reservation of vacancies in Defence Forces/Service as non-Commissioned officer/Rank.

c. Weightage against marks in selection for allied branches such as BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITPB, Costal Guard etc.

2. Financial Assistance

a. Scholarship of Rs.3000/- each p.a. by DG, NCC, on the basis of marks secured in Hr. Secondary Examination.

b. Financial Assistance/Relief by NCC cadets welfare society, in case of death/injuries sustained during recognised/ organised NCC activities.

B. By Govt. of Orissa

1. Preference in recruitment into State Police Force.

2. Scholarship :Chief Minister's Scholarship of Rs.1200/- each for excellence in Academic/Sport of National/State Level.

3. Awards

a. Cash award of Rs.500/- each for participation in the Republic Day Camp.

b. Governor's Medal with a cash award of Rs.1250/- for excellence in NCC activities at the National Level.

4. Academic Concession

a. Weightage of marks by 5, 10, 15 percent for NCC 'A', 'B', 'C' certificate holders respectively is given at the time of selection for various courses in Colleges and Universities.

b. Weightage of 5% marks is allowed to cadets representing Sainik Schoo/University/State/Centre at all India level sports / NCC activities.

National Service Scheme

The Godavaris Mahavidyalaya’s National Service Scheme has won a proud place in the hearts of villagers. The unit aims at promoting the participation of young men in community services, national integration, community living, eradication of illiteracy, improvement of hygenic condition, first aid, appreciation of the dignity of labour and combining the physical work with intellectual pursuit, working  of  the nation

building activities, organisation of debates, group discussions, improvement of games and sports, propagation of family planning, afforestation and plantation, small savings, preservation of monuments, organisation of entertainment programmes, carrying out socioeconomic surveys about different aspects of rural life, combating calamities like famine, flood, drought and earthquake and last but not the least mobilising available resources for the development of the community as a whole.

a. Training in NSS is voluntary for boys and girls students of this college.

b. Enrolment strength of NSS in the college is 50+50 (Boys and Girls)

c. The enrolment in the NSS is open to students who have faith in the scheme.

d. Application forms for enrolment can be had from NSS officers. Enrolment form duly filled in must reach the NSS officers in due time.

e. The students and teachers desirous of joining NSS should volunteer their service with a sense of sacrifice. They will also have opportunity of joining special camps of 10 to 15 days duration. Refreshments will be given to them.

f. Any indiscipline observed will disqualify a volunteer from his membership.

YOUTH RED CROSS

The Youth Red Cross Wing functioning in this college. The aim & objective of this is to inculcate service mentality among the students. Red Cross is an international voluntary organisation constituted under the patronisation of the Government in every country.

Membership

Any bonafied student of this college can be a member of Youth Red Cross.

Programme

Members of YRC are to associate themselves with various services activities in the society like arrangement of awareness programme for eradication of social evils and superstitions, disaster management etc. Students who want to take part are directed to consult with the Counseller YRC of this college.

SPORTS

There is a well equipped multi-gym inside the college campus funded by the UGC. Various types of up to date and sophisticated equipment are installed for the use of students and member of the staff. Regular practice sessions are conducted under the supervision of the P.E.T. and  sports  functionaries. Practice hours are fixed in accordance with the academic calendar of the college.
